    Social security beneficiaries receive more than RO107 million annually

    The number of Social Security Scheme cases stood at 72,707 till the end of February this year and these received a monthly pay of RO7,681,915. This was announced in a statement issued by Ministry of Social Development today. The report indicated that a total sum of RO 107,546,810 is being paid on an annual basis, after the addition of two extra salaries during Eid Al Fitr and Eid Al Ad’ha.

    His Majesty Sultan Haitham bin Tarik issued royal directives welcoming the advent of Ramadan and instituting an additional payment to Social Security Scheme beneficiaries to ease the impact of high prices of commodities and services on this segment. Ministry officials also expressed gratitude for royal directives that revised social assistance programmes and the methods of calculating Social Security benefits. Among the segments of the Social Security Sector are orphans, widows, the elderly, the deserted, the divorced, unmarried girls, the elderly and decrepit, as well as families of imprisoned individuals.
