ABU DHABI: Yas Waterworld Yas Island, Abu Dhabi will open its latest expansion to visitors on April 4, adding a new phase to the waterpark as Miral expands the site on Yas Island. The company said the opening will introduce 11 new slides and attractions, including headline thrill rides and new leisure features, in the latest development at the Abu Dhabi park, which is part of the emirate’s broader entertainment district.

Yas Waterworld adds 11 attractions for April 4 opening
Miral opens Yas Waterworld expansion in Abu Dhabi with new rides, leisure areas and added family attractions.

Miral said the project forms the next stage of the park’s Lost City theming, which extends Yas Waterworld’s long-running  Legend of the Lost Pearl storyline. The expansion adds eight new slides, two jumping platforms and a lounging pool, lifting the total number of in-park experiences to more than 70. The additions broaden the park’s ride mix across different thrill levels while increasing the number of shared attractions available to families, friends and other group visitors.

Among the headline additions is Matamir’s Drop, which Miral described as the UAE’s tallest waterslide. The attraction sends riders down a plunge of more than 40 meters before continuing on a 233-meter slide run. Other new rides include Sahel Matamir, a freefall tube racer built around bursts of speed and zero-gravity moments, along with Matamir Loop and Matamir Twist – Matamir Lights, which combine steep descents with fast-paced turns and lighting effects.

    New Attractions Expand Ride Mix

The expansion also introduces Matamir Splash, a dueling mat racer designed for side-by-side competition, as well as Sarab, a leisure pool created for guests seeking a calmer experience. Al Afda adds a platform jump element to the mix, giving the new area activities beyond conventional slides. Together, the additions bring both high-intensity rides and slower family-oriented spaces, combining racing, platform jumps and leisure water areas within the same expansion zone.

Jonathan Brown, chief portfolio officer at Miral, said the expansion marks another step in strengthening Yas Waterworld’s entertainment offering on Yas Island. He said the 11 new slides and attractions are intended to deliver new experiences for guests of different ages while reinforcing Abu Dhabi’s leisure and tourism offering. Miral also said the new zone continues the park’s blend of adventure, heritage and themed storytelling, which has remained central to Yas Waterworld’s identity.

    Lost City Theme Continues Growth

The latest opening follows an earlier Lost City expansion phase unveiled in July 2025, when Yas Waterworld added more than 20 rides, slides and experiences across a 13,445 square meter development. That earlier phase took the park beyond 60 rides, slides and attractions and introduced a new dining venue as Miral expanded the site’s footprint. The April 4 launch now pushes the total beyond 70 experiences, extending the park’s lineup through another stage of construction tied to the same themed area.

Located on Yas Island, the waterpark is part of a broader cluster of visitor attractions that anchor Abu Dhabi’s entertainment district. The latest additions sharpen Yas Waterworld’s focus on headline thrill rides while preserving its family positioning through leisure spaces and multi-age experiences. With Matamir’s Drop set to debut as the UAE’s tallest waterslide and the new Lost City phase opening to guests on April 4, the project extends the park’s lineup at Yas Island to more than 70 experiences – By Content Syndication Services.
